A note from Andy & Jenn

We are theatre artists. Bringing our full selves to every work session is essential. So, with a sense of urgency and endurance, every meeting is a social justice meeting. Every meeting is a public health meeting. Every meeting is a personal mental health meeting. Even when the pieces we are creating are not explicitly about these things. We don't escape these realities when we enter our work space. 

They are in the studio with us. 

We endeavor to be and do better. We are all in.

THE LAB rigorously investigates and explores physical theatre technique through the lens of ASA’s 3 main tenets – Relentless AUTHENTICITY, Absolute SPECIFICITY, and Reckless ABANDON. 

We treat the theatre space like a working scientific laboratory to experiment with original work, play with established scripts and explore various theatre, dance, and ensemble practices to expand the boundaries of theatrical convention without the pressure of production results.

ASA is committed to running the LAB on an ongoing basis for our Ensemble to train regularly and to keep us challenged and connected as active working theatre artists.

We also hold open LAB sessions where actors, dancers, singers, writers, designers and directors are all invited to come and experience ASA's unique approach to actor training and to the medium of theatre.
