Director’s Note…
First, on behalf of ÁSA theatre, we are thrilled to be co-producing this production of MUCH ADO/about nothing with Cape Rep Theatre.
We entered this production’s process with both a question and an experiment. Hero, one of Much Ado’s main female leading characters is manipulated and commodified by the societal construct that governs the play - a structure that both objectifies and nullifies women. What if, Hero had more agency right from the start of the play? Could we experiment with turning the patriarchal structure on its head?
Ambitious, Investigative, Explorative – these are guideposts to begin an ÁSA process.
What has evolved is a production that sees this story through Hero’s eyes.
Enormous gratitude to this cast for jumping onboard this adventure.
